The story of Dr. Gerald Bull and the weapons he built on a compound that straddled the Vermont/Quebec border at Jay,VT/Highwater, Quebec, is one of the most intriguing stories to ever come out of the Northeast Kingdom. Dr. Bull, the founder of Space Research, eventually met his demise at the hands of assassins.

St. Mary's Star of the Sea Church in Newport celebrated its 100th birthday this year. This old photo shows how the church overlooks Newport.

Bishop Salvatore Matano of Burlington took part in the celebrations that took place on August 16. This photo was made possible by Chris Roy, a reporter and photographer from Coventry, Vermont.

Pierre Gervais grew up in Island Pond, Vermont. He is now a career officer in the United States Army stationed at the Pentagon.

Among his duties in the military Lieutenant Colonel Gervais was a member of the Army's Joint Task Force for Accountability. He visited a number of Southeast Asian countries in search of MIAs and POWs. LTC Gervais is seen in this photo (wearing stripes) talking with U.S. Senator John Kerry (wearing a white shirt) during a search mission into Vietnam. Senator Kerry is a Vietnam veteran himself.

Also in this issue is an article written by Geraldine Aldrich Percy. The article is about growing up in Island Pond during the early 20th century.
